Its history dates back to 1920, which is when the Medical and Dental Faculties were established at the University of Poznan.
In 1950 however, the medical and dental detached to form what is now the University of Medical Sciences in Poznan. As far as English courses are concerned, the university introduced them for the first time in 1993. PUMS boasts an impressive 27+ years of teaching medical sciences to students from all over the world.

The admission requirements for Poznan Medical University are:
1. Poznan Medical University requires medical applicants to have a high school certificate. An advantage is given to students who have covered Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths during their High School years of GCSEs and/or A-levels.

The winter semester starts on 1st October and ends on 7th February next year. The first exam session is between 8th February – 21st February.
The second semester starts on 1st March and ends on 20th June, followed immediately by the summer exam session, which ends on the 4th of July.
