About Charles University First Faculty of Medicine

Charles University was established in 1348. Nowadays, the university has 17 faculties in 3 cities around the Czech Republic. The First Faculty of Medicine is located in the capital  - Prague. It offers Medicine and dentistry courses, both entirely taught in English.

Prague is the largest and most populated city in the country. It is home to many Czech Universities. It has more than 1.3 million inhabitants. The city is as essential for the Czech Republic as it is for Europe - it is the political, cultural, and economic centre of the central part of the continent.

Courses Offered at Charles University First Faculty of Medicine

The M.D. course lasts 6 years and consists of theoretical and practical training. It includes training in simulators, bedside teaching, and summer clerkships. In the last year, you will be taking part in clinical rotations. You don’t have to worry if you can’t find a teaching hospital for your summer clerkships. The university is in cooperation with many hospitals around Prague that will welcome you anytime.

The dentistry curriculum is nothing different from any other European University. During the first years, you will learn the basics of medicine. Later on, in higher courses, you will start practising with real patients with dental problems under the supervision of a teacher.

The university doesn’t offer an Advanced M.D. and doesn’t accept students transfer.

Applicants who want to study here must sit an entrance exam. It consists of multiple-choice questions from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The written exam has a maximum of 300 points. The next part is an oral interview with a maximum point of 30. To be admitted to the university, you must score at least 244 points out of 330.

King Charles Medical College Preparatory Courses

King Charles Medical College offers pre-medical courses in Prague that are fully supervised by Charles University – The first faculty of medicine.

Why should you take a preparatory course? The programme works as a connecting branch to the first faculty of medicine. Once successfully completed, students will be presented with the official admission exam to start their medical degree in the next academic year.

Frontal pre-med courses take place over the course of 22 weeks & 38 weeks of intense and effective studies. During the pre-medical programme, students will learn and be trained in science at a university level and prepare for official admission exams and their medical degrees.

King Charles Medical College's preparatory course offers 2 weeks of orientation, language studies in medical English, Czech, and an intensive 20-week scientific course. Students will be given university tours, an introduction to lab classes, and a visit to the anatomy museum of the university. Online pre-med courses are also available.

Accommodation

11 student dormitories belong to Charles University in Prague. Each dormitory is located close to one of the faculties in the city. They offer single, double, and triple rooms with private bathrooms and shared kitchens. 

The buildings have study and TV rooms, washing machines, and gyms. On the first floor of each dorm, you can find a vending machine for snacks, coffee, and tea. Also, they offer catering services, not included in the monthly rent.

The average price for a bed in the dormitories is per month. This includes electricity, running water, facilities in the dormitory, and the heating system. 

Renting a one-bedroom apartment in Prague costs around per month. Other expenses like utilities, food, transport, and leisure activities will cost you about an additional monthly, according to your living standards.
