Life as a Medical Student in Constanta, Romania

Constanta came into existence after the defeat of the great Persian Empire by the brave and defiant queen Tomyris. In a historic battle, Tomyris slew no other but Cyrus the Great, and in commemoration of her victory, she founded a city on the Black Sea coast. She named it Tomis after herself.

Centuries later, the Roman emperor renamed the city Constanta in honour of his sister Constantia, another noble-born woman of great power. The name means “constant”, and it perfectly suits the city's spirit because there is a sense of permanence here.

Constanta is a vibrant city in the warm months with its beaches and seaside attractions such as the dolphinarium and the many excellent seafood restaurants. In addition, the city has many nightclubs and bars competing for the attention of aspiring doctors. Besides, the Never Sea Music Festival is an annual event of international popularity.

Even in the colder months, Constanta stays a hub of culture, offering quieter joys like the philharmonic, opera, and theatre shows. Future doctors can explore Constanta's historic Old Town, wander through the city's parks, or visit its shopping malls. The city also has many nightclubs and venues that put on live shows.

And if you are looking for a weekend getaway from the city, there is always the Danube Delta Micro Reservation as a top destination. It is less than a couple of hours' drive away, and it is an unforgettable experience. The natural park is home to unique bird and plant species, and the boat tours are a splendid way to observe them.
